Neapolitan Mastiff Information
Neapolitan Mastiff Description:The origin of the Neapolitan Mastiff lies in Italy. The breed is thought to descend from Tibetan Mastiff, the oldest known molosser type of dog. The breed is believed to be more than 2000 years old. However, it only came to be recognized in 1946. Like most other breeds, the breed was on the verge of extinction after the Second World War. However, the breed was resurrected with the help of an Italian painter named Piero Scanziani, who used the English Mastiff to resurrect the breed. It was after the Second World War that the breed was named Neapolitan Mastiff. The breed was first recognized by AKC in 2004. |
Neapolitan Mastiff Care & Grooming:The Neapolitan Mastiff is an average shedder. Brushing once in a week is sufficient to maintain a healthy coat. Because of the many skin folds, it tends to accumulate a lot of dirt on its face. Cleaning them regularly with warm water is strongly advised to avoid any skin infection. This breed is prone to bloat. Thus, overfeeding should be avoided. Small, frequent meals should be preferred over large meals. This dog is sensitive to very high temperature so care should be taken when taking them out. |
Neapolitan Mastiff Health Problems:The Neapolitan Mastiff prone to some health issues like hip and elbow dysplasia, bloat, pain in the joints, skin allergies, heart problem and cherry eye. |
